Dr. Durland grew up in Monroe, North Carolina, and graduated as valedictorian of Monroe High School. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with honors and distinction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. After spending a year in research and development at GlaxoSmithKline (formerly Glaxo Pharmaceuticals), he returned to UNC-Chapel Hill to complete his Doctor of Medicine with honors.
His clinical interests include otology, laryngology, pediatric otolaryngology, rhinology and thyroid surgery. Outside of medicine, Dr. Durland volunteers as a Scoutmaster with BSA Troop 395 and enjoys tennis, hiking, camping, skiing and fishing.
