How Long Does Botox® Last?
How Long Do Botox Injections Last?
Typically, Botox injections last for four months, but results will vary slightly.
In some cases, Botox may last for 12 months, depending upon what area you are treating, according to information from the U.S. Library of Medicine.
How Does Botox Work?
When you receive a Botox injection, certain muscles are weakened to the point that they are unable to tighten.
As a result, wrinkles are less prominent. It’s particularly effective on frown lines, “crow’s feet”, and wrinkles on the forehead and between the eyebrows.
What Are the Common Side Effects of Botox Injections?
Most patients we treat have few, if any, side effects. However, some may experience bruising or mild pain and swelling at the Botox injection site.
In other cases, flu-like symptoms can occur, and your eyelids may droop. However, these conditions are only temporary.
What is Botox Made From?
It may surprise you to learn that Botox is made from a toxin that can cause a type of food poisoning called botulism.
But don’t worry, this toxin, when used in very small doses, is effective in not only eliminating wrinkles but also treating other health care problems.
Is Botox safe?
Yes. Most side effects are very mild and temporary.
However, women who are pregnant or nursing should not have Botox. It should also be avoided by those who are allergic to the protein in cow’s milk, according to information from the Mayo Clinic.
Did You Know Botox Is Used to Treat Many Health Conditions?
Botox injections are often thought of as a way to smooth wrinkles, but the benefits of this drug enable it to be used for a variety of medical treatments.
According to the U.S. Library of Medicine Botox may be also used to treat:
- Severe sweating, particularly under the arms
- Cervical dystonia–which means severe shoulder and neck contractions
- Uncontrollable blinking (The medical term for this is blepharospasm)
- Chronic migraines
- Overactive bladder
What Happens During Botox Treatment?
Typically, Botox treatment is not painful. However, depending upon what part of your body is being treated, your skin will be numbed beforehand.
An example would be if you needed Botox injections in the sole of your feet as a treatment for severe sweating.
During the procedure, we use a small, thin needle to give you tiny amounts of Botox into the specific area.
The number of Botox injections you will receive depends upon many different things, particularly the area that needs treatment and the reason behind the treatment.
To keep the Botox toxin from spreading to other areas, do not massage or excessively rub the area for at least 24 hours after treatment, according to information from the Mayo Clinic.
Recovery is fast and simple. You can go back to work and resume normal activities immediately after the Botox injections. We provide these treatments from the convenience of one of our seven office locations.
What Are the Most Common Cosmetic Procedures?
At Raleigh Capitol ENT, we offer a variety of cosmetic procedures. Some of the most common ones we perform include:
Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty, where we carefully adjust bone and cartilage to change both appearance and functionality of your nose.
In many cases, a “nose job” isn’t just about transforming the way you look.
There are cases where it can dramatically improve breathing, especially if the nose was previously broken or damaged in some way. Rhinoplasty can provide more than mere cosmetic benefits.
Blepharoplasty
Has anyone ever commented that your eyes look tired?
Often this is because you have excess skin around your upper or lower eyelids.
A blepharoplasty removes them and, on some occasions, fat is either eliminated or repositioned. Like a rhinoplasty, this procedure is much more than cosmetic. Sometimes, it can help improve your field of vision.
Otoplasty
This procedure corrects protruding ears. By moving the ears closer to the head, we are able to create a natural appearance.
We utilize sutures to ensure the ears stay anchored in their new position. Often, adults can have this procedure done in our office.
Botox Services at Raleigh Capitol Ear, Nose and Throat
You should only receive Botox injections if you are under a doctor’s supervision.
Why? If the injection is incorrectly placed, it could cause unwanted side effects. If it’s not administered correctly, it could be dangerous.
We have extensive experience not only with Botox, but with an extensive array of cosmetic procedures ranging from rhinoplasty to chin implants. Our physicians are recognized as leaders in the field of facial plastic surgery.
You can learn more about the costs of our Botox injections on this site. Depending upon the condition that Botox injections are treating, your insurance may or may not cover it. Typically, insurance does not cover procedures that are purely cosmetic.
